They look to be two different variants and probably shoudn't be bred

it's not unusual for males and females to display different characteristics... or have some features that are slightly different or more pradominant than others.
From info from the seller they came from the same spawn.
When they are in different modes they change colour too... sometimes they look identical and sometimes they look different.
i appreciate your experience and knowledge, but i think it's a big call to post that i shouldn't breed them
anyone else have any thoughts?

Always good to err on the side of caution.
Their head markings are totally different i.e. the male has numerous closely spaced spots the female has less and are more dispersed. All my males and females have the same markings as your female. Your male also has forehead markings not present in the general leucosticta going around.
If they came from the same spawn it's already too late and may be why the male looks similar but not exactly the same as the "sinuous" here

I did initially say to mattzilla's photos that those geos look like whiting to me but recently I came across them in a lfs and they really are cool looking geos, I'm seriously thinking of buying some myself now
Congratulations mattzilla, I hope all goes well with them.
Ozarowana, why shouldn't you breed them even if they even are a bit different? I understand the argument about preserving the original strains, but noone ever complains about mixing discus, browns with rsgs or ss with turqs or whatever, why is mixing geos with different patterns any different?

Domestic man made discus are totally different to Satanoperca variants or locality variants of any other species.
Would you cross the different locality variants of Malawi or Tanganika cichlids?
Would you cross G. altifrons "Tocantins" with G. altifrons "Manaus" or G. sp. "Tapajos OH" with G. sp. "Araguaia OH"?
