Update...
i had posted previously about a sick discus.
read hear its long.
http://www.discusforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7920
he has his color and hes not eating yet that i noticed.
i got one more dose of metro been following it too a tee.
well he does look alot better except i see some slimy stuff coming off the poor guy.
could he have had something and these are the final stages?
i really like to know.
im going to keep him in for at least another week. and keep 2 water changes daily.
but is there really anything else i can do.
i dont think the vet will give me anymore metro as they said i might need to go to a specialist. pff.
but i can pick some up in 5 days.
will he be ok

Maybe its his slime coat...???
I am not sure whether you can use salt whilst dosing with metro but If you can that is probably the best thing to help with slime coat repair...
I am sure someone with more experience will be able to advise.....
sorry I cant be of more help.... good luck

check your water parameters especially pH , increased mucous production on the skin can simply be due to water issue and your medication may have altered some paramters
after that a fresh mount of the slime to check for parasites or bacteria is indicated , in my experience metronidazol is not a useful antibiotic for external bacterial infections, i realise this was not your primary problem
possibilty's for external oragnism range from costia.,ich, chilodonella, flukes and some protozoan(susceptible to metro so not likely in your case)
first port of call for me would be water changes
best of luck

i change almost all the water twice a day?
so maybe it just his slime coat. when im done the doseing tongiht i could change alot of the water and add a bit of salt and do constant waterchanges.
i just dont want to screw up the doseing.
ill check the water now and report back because i just used old tank water and it was perfect.
i havent seen any outside signs either. he looks good. hes not swimming around much as we was when i first put him in. so i figured it was the metro.
i will get back thanks for the help. just dont want something else happening.

alright i think these are bad numbers for water.
but remember the tank wasnt cycled.
i took a sponge filter from a cycled tank and added all tank water at first.
been doing 40-50% water changes every 12 hours.
Ph. is about 6.8 but under 7. whereas its usually steady at 6.8.
Nitrite is about 0.3 just a change of color from what it should be just as everything else except ammonia.
amonia is about 0.3-0.6
Nitrate. is at about 0.7.
this test was just done and i did a water change before. i just took water and put it in a cup.
how long should i wait to test the water again?
i know this is bad. so i will wait until as long as i can before doing another change to finish the last dose.
then i will take out all the water i can and keep doing that for the next few days while i add salt or anything else you reccomend.
i have prazi and levamisole in food form but he wont eat.
and the only othe thing i have is melafix and pimafix.
until next weekend where im going to stock up on whatever i can get like metro, prazi, levamisole i will have to ask u guy where else i can get it besides a vet and a pet store cause neither have heard of it.

If you are changing the water so frequently where do you think the ammonia is coming from
have you tested your water source ?

no dont have that problem in any of my other 3 tanks. and all the water comes from the same place?
i test all the other tanks at least once a week.
i thought it was just because it was cycling?
and either way do you really think its the cause of his slime stuff?
he follows me around the kitchen again. which he hasnt done for a while
like i said im willing to do water cahnges like 3 times a day if i have to .
or more.
thank you for your help.
i forgot to say it before
Jen
i was watching my sick discus? and the water has lots of white stuff for his skin and meds. but i saw a few white things like jumpy in the water? could it be my eyes or maybe its ich?

fish
Is it possible to provide some pictures?
For the record - yes you can dose metro and rock salt in the water at the same time.
Without a picture it will be difficult to help. You may benefit from a double dose of water ager though.
