discus size
What is the smallest breed of discus ? or do they all grow to a similar size.......
also can they be kept by themselves in a community aquarium ? or will they be unhappy.
Also can they be kept with neon tetra or are thye like angels and will just rip them apart ?

There are no " Miniture " discus from my knowledge....
Most strains reach 6 inchs if kept in good enough conditions....
Discus do fine in discus only tanks...actually its better that way...they are also very peaceful and can be kept with neons.... :P

discus
Growth on discus comes down to three things:
1) Genetics - this is the limiting factor for how big they can get.
2) Diet - feed plenty of protein and all necessary trace elements. Feed the fish frequently if young.
3) Water changes - Plenty of water changes with aged water (20% per day minimum if you want serious growth rates)
I personally have seen adult discus at 4 inches total size breeding, whilst I have also seen a group of discus who were still young adults at around 10 inches total length. This is an example of genetics more so than anything though.
