How do i measure a discus?

This is might seem like a bit of an elementary question but where do you measure a discus from/to, to determine its size. Obviously depending on where you measure from and to will have a large influence on apparent size.

For example do you measure from the base of the tail to the tip of the mouth? Or end of the tail to the tip of the mouth?

you can measure it both i guess as long as you state the start and end point of your measurement.

SL is standard length and is from the mouth to the base of the caudal fin.

TL is total length and is from the mouth to the end of the caudal fin.

    I personally always talk SL.
