Tips On Making DIY Fish Tanks

    hey guys ,

in the new year i am going to be attempting to make some fish tanks of my own. reason being i dont have the funds to buy pre built tanks and this way will be far less costly... i think.

i have a friend who is a glacier who will get me as much glass as i want for a great price but he doesnt know anything about making the tanks.

if anyone has any experience/ tips on how to make the tanks i would love to know. i want the tanks to be very heavy duty as they will be connected to a sump etc .. oh yer my friends can drill holes too

    cheers guys

    thanx in advance

king vinnies has a great DIY section
    http://www.kingvinnie.com/aquaria/di...age.asp?cat=46

also recall seeing a couple of pictorials , seemed fairly basic
tape was used on outside of the tank to hold glass whilst silicone cured
ensure you use aquarium safe silicon

alternatively buy right angle plastic and use on all corners , protects the glass from early chips when being moved too

not sure what size tanks willl need bracing etc

RE Tips On Making DIY Fish Tanks

All measurments are in inches 1/4 in thick glass
Two 48" x 18" front and back pieces
    Two 18" x 13.5 "ends
One 47.5" X 13.5" bottom. The bottom goes inside so sides do not sit on bottom of tank. Makes it easy to assemble as well.
Tank will measure when put togeather 48" long x 18" high x 14" wide
Make two braces 2' wide x 45' long for inside front and back
Three braces 4" wide x 13' long end and centre baces.
    Any comments or additions welcome.
