    HELP NEEDED, fin rot?

I've just noticed my Blue Diamond has developed a white 'scaley' type film on his sides. Fins are down and he unusually skittish. Almost like he's shedding a layer of skin. Doesn't look good. Tried to get photos but he's just hiding in the back corner of the tank.

Is this the early stages of fin rott?

If so, what's the best treatment?

First check your water for a pH drop. This sounds like an acid burn.

If your pH test checks out okay, then do a big waterchange and add 1 teaspoon of rock salt or cooking salt per 40 Litres to the tank, and then wait and see if there is any improvement.

Finrot usually only affects the fins, and not the slime coating on the body, so I think we may be dealing with something else here.
Thirty-five years keeping and breeding discus, and I'm still learning :P

    HI Merrilyn,

I found more info on the net last night. I think it might be a fungus or some sort. It has cloudy, almost scaley, white bits on it sides and it looks on deaths door this morning. Other discus in the tank look OK.

Whats the best way to set up a quatunteen tank when you don't have one? e.g. bucket with an air stone?? with water from the tank.
