Rocks
Hey guys and gals,
This may seem like a dumb question, but my dad picked up some polished rocks (I think they are porous volcanic type) from his local beach and gave them to me to put in my planted discus tank. I want to add them so he doesn't get offended lol, but should I soak them first? How long is sufficient? Or should I scrub them with any product?
Thanks,
Claire.

hi Claire
I always soak new wood or rocks in boiling water before adding to the tank. u may also want to test to see if your new rocks will effect your hardness. a simple way of doing this is to put a couple drops of vingar on the rock if it fizzs up your hardness will rise in the tank and i wouldn't add the rocks. i hope this helps

Hey Cameron,
Thanks for the tip. I did the test and there was no fizzing, so I'm guessing it shouldn't affect the water chemistry, like you said.
Claire.
