    What would you say are the top things a discus tank needs?

    excellent water ie soft water low ph low hardness
    high temp 2 heaters are recommened
    uv sterilizer what size for what tank?
    hang on filter? Cannister filter? Wet/dry?
    bubble wands yes/no?
    tank mates yes/no?
    what lighting bright/soft?

    Instead of a bubble wand, use a couple of sponge filters...

    that way they aerate the water, and act as a mechanical and biological filter as well.

    ...also, I would use 2 Heaters, which are slightly under the recommended requirements for having just one heater.

    for example, if you required 1 x 200w heater, I would get 2 x 150w heaters, that way if one fails the other will be sufficient, but if one sticks on, it wont cause a rapid temperature increase.

    so what would that be? two 175watt heaters for a 55?
    no sense makes sense
