When you put peat in your filter doese the water stay that brown colour? or do i have to put a clear water agent in the water?

Peat gives off tannins & humic acids... which is GOOD

    Discus love Blackwater...

I would advise against using chemicals to remove the tannins, if you dont like the tea colour, do more water changes, or add a small amount of carbon to your filter...

    OMG...

How much peat are you using... and what type of peat??? you also need to keep on top of your pH, becasue peat will drop it somewhat...

One of my tanks had a ph crash a few months back after I added some fresh peat... in 4 days it went from 6.95 to 4.80, by catching it when I did, and VERY slowly raising it I didnt lose a single fish, although they werent happy for a few days...

I use and recommend Sera peat granules, but there are plenty of good alternatives out there.
