Townsville water
I check the water up here every week when I'm doing water changes. Excellent water for sure - from the tap pH 6.1 - 6.5, DH 2-3. Some flouride added so let it settle for a day or 2 with airstone. The council tells me the water comes from Crystal creek and actually is so soft and acidic, they add calcium to stop the pipes from dissolving!! Perfect water from the tap for breeding - never had any dramas or need to treat.

Yeah - but it is a bit of a dry 'hole'. When it rains it pours!! Rain water is pure to with no real atmospheric contamination and as it rains up to 6 inches a week, there's heaps to share. One thing I've found however is that when I ship fry/juveniles down south, they often have problems with the water quality and the weaker ones may die. What I have to do is construct poorer water to acclimate them before shipping. Do you know how hard that is!!!

Hunter Valley water
Most our water comes from south-eastern slopes of Barrington Tops National Park, very close to pristine wilderness. In my younger years I used to walk up the streams in this area with my son. God's own country. Hunter water quality results (monthly, yearly report) and the Australian Standard on drinking water can be found at http://hunterwater.com.au/waterqualityreport.asp. Read 'em and weep.Catchment is still above 90% and I have a lot of confidence in their results as they used to tally close to my own when performing NATA round robin testing.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
