    carbonate hardness

    hi all how are you. I've been running some tests on my tap water and noticed my carbonate hardness is 10ppm this seems to be very low.the water in Canberra is realy soft p.h 6.8 to7 any idea on treating this carbonate hardness? thank you

    Assuming the reading on your test kit to be correct .Adding a handfull of shellgrit to your tank would help to keep your water more stable, and prevent pH crash.

    ladyred the reading is correct tested it 4 times.will the shell grit affect my ph? thanks for the help. GH is 50ppm.

    It will help to buffer the pH and keep it stable. i.e. it won't drop so rapidly.

    thanks for your time and help. Ive placeed shellgrit in me water aging tank tonight will test water tomorrow.
