Hi -- I'm an American born in Austria and a former CTO for a Sydney-based cyber startup.
I am returning to the hobby after some 25 years hiatus. Just catching up with the changes in breeders and technology. When I was last in the hobby, wet/dry in a sump was not typical for discus hobbyists. Neither was much automation in managing water changes/top-off. Now it seems that algae scrubbers and refugiums are fairly common.

Anyway, I have a home sale coming up around the 2023/2024 change-over and am just now starting to look at what my eventual setup will look like. I will DIY a 100+ gallon (378 L) sump with mechanical and bio, along with algae scrubbing before return to main tank. To the extent possible, I expect to automate most water changes and maintenance, along with preparation of replacement water.

Very curious about new crosses, newer tech and techniques...

hello!
