    Air stones

Just woundering how important it is to run airstones
In my 5 foot tank I run two canister filters bit of an over kill but, they both break to water surface, ( cause ripples in the water ).
Does airating the water help with growth
Aid in maintaining good water quality

with cannister airstones are good to de-gas the water

with a tickle system it is not nessacary

although they won't be to disturbed, perhaps you should use the incoming water to create a steedy stram of air bubbles into the water

Airstones work by bringing the water up from the bottom of the tank to the surface where co2 can dissipate and oxygen can enter the water. Circulation is the key here. You want the water to gently roll so that stale water is constantly coming to the surface to be renewed with oxygen.

Warm water holds less oxygen than cool water, so I like to run an airstone in all my tanks.
