    Slime producing fish?

    Hellow fellow discusforumians!

We all know by now that discus produce a kind of mucous that the young feed off, I also believe that Uaru's (triangle cichlids) produce a slime that serves the same purpose.

    I have 3 questions.

*are there any other Freshwater fish that produce this slime?

*with the exception of breeding, would these uaru's do ok with discus?
as they like the same water condition as discus?

    * are there any discusforumians that already keep these 2 cichlids together?

oh, one more question, i would not mind some of these Uaru's, are there any breeders in Vic? and whats the going price?

Uarus are a bit more aggresive feeders compared to discus. Competition for food may be the main thing. That said, Uaru prefer more vegetable matter in their diet as compared to discus.

I know there are a few Uaru going around up North in QLD. Don't have any myself atm.

Uarus can be down right MEAN when it comes to feeding time.

I don't know that I would recc keeping them together.

As far as slime "coat" goes.........

    All fish produce the enzyme.

Some are just more prolific at it then others.

There are rumors that fish that are missing something in thier diet have been known to "eat" the slime coat off of other fish.

The most agressive of these rumors have been mainly about the catfish family.
