    How important is lighting?

Do discus need a "night time" for healthy development? How many hours should the lights be out for?

    Any suggestions welcome.

Gee, lots of differing opinions on this one Chris. Some big time overseas breeders leave their lights on 24/7 others turn them off for at least 8 hours. It's up to the individual I guess.

The only time I leave lights on all night, is during the first two weeks when pairs have eggs or new fry. Other than that, lights out for at least 10 hours a night.
Thirty-five years keeping and breeding discus, and I'm still learning :P

Also I know one successful breeder in these forums that never turns his lights on unless he is looking at them ... and says no lights no algae. Big differing opinions as Ladyred says. I personally like plants so light is important consideration for me.

    Thanks guys.
Despite the conflicting opinions, they are helpful.
