Could be diggin a pit to breed or diggin to find a flat surface to breed...

Change your substrate over to a finer sand and you'll see how geo's sift for food... very cool especially if in groups.

My Abalios have been doing the same just lately. My Leucos dont seem to care much for territory but my abalios pick a spot, dig it and then guard it.
