Filter media?

Hi

I have been using the same eheim filter in my tank for more than two years now. I haven't replaced any of the media except a new sponge.

I'm a little reluctant to replace some of the pads and things because I'm worried about upset the balance, but i figure the pads and sponges can't be working as well as when they were newer.

Can any one give me any advice about this?

Heya Scooby,

I will normally throw out maybe 1/3 of the sponge in my canister, rinse the remainder in tank water (NOT tap), and then replace the missing volume of sponge with some new sponge.

If you do it, say, every 12 months, you should be fine.
