G'dal All,
Anyone keeping L134's? whats the care and diet like and how well would they be suited as a clean up crew in 400L wild discus tank (quarts sand substrate, lots of drift wood, no plants)?
tank specs
pH 5.0
temp 30C
kH 0
gH 60ppm

Eheim 2228

if you bring the ph up a bit you should be ok with them
the ph could probably be dropped back down gradually to what it was i have 4 of them they grow fast are great fish not overly territorial eaither
-
Thanks chris, what are you feeding them? do they like strong current?
-
they like anything really i ahve never had an issue with them . they eat everything they can get to
Bworms Bshrimp mysis live worms tetra bits
carnivore pellets anything they get they eat
strong current not needed only during breeding time
but alot of O2 is essential
-
cheers mate, will bring the tank pH up a little and then give them a go.
-
did you end up getting a few mate?
i just bought ten so hopefully i can start breeding them
-
no chriss, had a few other expenses pop up so i threw the common whips into the wild tank to get it going.
i just inherited a standed 6 footer though, so when you get fry give me a yell.
-
wont be for a yr or so these guys grow fast but maturity wont be reached for a while
-
LOL no rush mate, keep us posted on how they grow
-
.
How did you go? did you ever end up getting some of these guys?
-

Hey ILLUSN. I had a beautifull royal whiptail with my discus, grew so fast looked awsome. But he loved discus slime. It didnt seem to bother them to bad. Bothered me though, So he went to the fish club auction. He is still well looked after. I wanted to get another one, thought maybe If I was lucky it wouldnt work out that discus are food. Have you had that problem?
-
yeah all my royal whips though both discus and angels were food, i dont keep royals anymore
-
which ones dont eat discus ?
-
ottos are generally ok, I've never had issues with bristlenoses but other people have, LG6's will eat discus (at least mine do)
-
sorry I meant which whiptails. Is it mainly royals or are they all slime suckers.
-
Hey goodoo i keep common and long nose whiptails with my discus and they dont bother anyone . They are great fish .

red lizard whips
I've kept red lizard whiptails with my discus and they were fine, but true red lizard whiptails seem really hard to find now. Someone crossed them with standards so now there are a few motley redish brown ones around.
