Pic of THE UNDEAD !!!!Merrilyn's Altums refuse to DIE!!!!
-
As usual, you've made my fish look wonderful.
Big hugs for you Taksan.
You're a genius.
:P
-
Looking good Mez !
How big is the tank you have them in (is it the 10ft) ?
Roy
-
Not in the big tank yet Roy, we're having the ten footer professionally aquascaped before the altums go in there.
They're doing so well in the smaller tank, I'm almost afraid to move them. But 16 altums in a 260 litre tank is a bit crowded now
-
Love this pic

hahhaha
I WISH!!!!!!!!!!!
mate they are unbelievable, well done
-
Absolutely stunning. How big are they now from tip to tip?
-
They look Fantastic! Wow glad I got to see the real thing :)
I am hoping to have a tank just for Altums too one day...Watching and learning Merrilyn :)
Do you keep them in a species only tank or compbine with one or two other species like loaches and Bristlies to help keep a balanced tank?
-
From previous painful experience, I have discovered that it's not possible to keep altums with any other angel species or discus species. A few catfish are fine, but nothing else.
They are very sensitive to disease carried by other angels and discus.
If you want to keep them, you must buy the colony all at once, from the same source, and never mix them with any other altums, or disaster will surely follow.
-
They look bloody awesome!
Soo very healthy!
well done Merrilyn.
-
They do look good, don't they Ben.
I'll share that very good bottle of scotch with you as we celebrate winning the bet and Taksan's defeat :P
-
ummmm someone say scotch?
:P :P :P

Almost time to move the altums into their new home.
After looking at that gorgeous tank from Holland with all the twisted branches, it's given me an inspiration for the new tank decore. I've already managed to collect quite a few twisted branches, taksan has the river rocks and we already have the sand substrate.
It's all happening in the next week. I'll keep you updated with pictures.
It'll be great to have them a tank where we can actually get some clear photos, although I'm pretty nervous about moving them :?
-
Merrilyn, you have a colony to die for and I can't wait to see what their new home is going to look like! Taksan's video link was breathtaking and you definitely have the numbers to to the same.
What are your plans for the transition?
-
The transition ...... hmmmmmmmmm............ I have an Eheim Pro 3 cycling on the altum tank at the moment.
I'll move the driftwood, some plants and all the water into the new tank, although 350 litres in a 1400 litre tank won't go far, carefully match the pH and hardness and temperature, then slowly and carefully add the altums one at a time to their beautifully decorated tank.
Then sit back and
PANIC
for the next two weeks.

Major tank cleaning time was a good opportunity to take some close up pics. You can get an idea of the size of the altums compared to a man's hand.
-
not easy to hold .... stab the crap out of your hands with the pectoral fins ...
time for a wax on the old arms i think
-
Awesome looking fish.
Wish they were mine.
Can you put me on the list now for fry when they are available.
Before anyone say's anything they are going to breed....
Cheers,
Mark
-
Merrilyn,
they are truly awesome altums the best i have ever seen, looking forward to them in their new home ! Great pics.
cheers
-
Thanks guys :P
Mark, you're on top of the list for fry IF and when they breed. For the moment, I'm just happy to keep them alive.
Darren, thankyou. I was glad to get such a healthy batch, and even more pleased that all 16 original fish are still thriving.
Wish I'd bought 30 of them at the time.
Chris, stop being a wimp. I didn't see any blood.
:P

not even with heckels at a ph of 4 ???
-
Samir, I'm not willing to experiment with these babies, even with the pH in the 4s.
I would just love to have the altums swimming with wild heckels. It would be my dream tank come true. But truth of the matter, I'm just not game to risk these guys.
-
you didnt see any blood because i was scared to show you incase you thought i hurt your fish
im not stupid a severe beating awaits the person who hurts those altums
LOL
-
HAHAHA you really do understand, don't you.
-
fast learner the first beating i got for flushign those rasboras learnt me good ...
-
how are they doing ?? what ph do you have them at ?
-
Yeah but not just any rasboras !
It was the rare as hen's teeth galaxy rasboras that you threw out with the excess floating weed :x And I'm still waiting to find more. I can't breed with just one lonely fish
Samir, they're doing well. Currently at pH 5.2 on the way down to 4.5.
-
-
OMG, you never told me you had them Merrilyn!
They are an awesome rasbora!
