Woohoo...

Very excited to come home from work and managed to see my powder blue pair breeding. They are quite a young pair and the male seems to get distracted very easily but hope that he does a good job.
Does this get better with age?

Hopefully i will have some wrigglers in a couple of days :D

Cheers

Congratulations. It's exciting isn't it. All pairs are different. Some get things right the first time, and others take months before they get their act together.

You must be doing something right, so well done :P

Thanks alot guys

Can't wait til tomorrow morning which is when i'm expecting them to hatch.

As to the name nicolas i bought them as powder blues from a friend of mine who is a private breeder.

Although i think their orange face is quite unique. They look a little beaten up atm because when i had them in my community tank they were bullied by my big male. But they're repairing gradually. I used Melafix to help the process but stopped it since they've spawned because i wasn't sure whether it would effect the eggs.

Can't wait til tomorrow, and will update photos

Great news

Woke up this morning and was staring at the little fry with their tales wiggling.

Very excited hope it keeps getting better.

Just wanted to k now though will the white eggs effect the wrigglers if the parents don't move them?

Tried to take photos but can't get a clear shot on them. Might be something wrong with my camera.

Anyways will try to take photos tonight

Cheers

ARGHH :(

Just when everything was going so well....

The parents moved the fry last night onto the corner filter!!

Has resulted in some fry being stuck in between the gaps and some on the filter wool. I have pulled the wool out of the corner filter and have turned it off. Hopfully the parents will move them somewhere else and reunite the group of fry.

Well, fingers crossed.

Cheers,
Unhappy fella

With a bit of luck they should move them all together again.

Fingers crossed.

Ayayay...

The fry have started free swimming but the parents are deciding to beat the S#@! out of each other.
Don't have any idea of what to do....
Resulting in fry not attaching and parents getting seriously damaged...

So depressing

Cheers

It happens with discus, so don't stress.

Two things you can do. One is to remove one of the parents, and leave the fry with just one. They will quite easily raise the fry on their own.

Second is to put a mesh divider in the tank, and have one parent on each side of the divider. The fry will swim through the mesh when they want to, but the parents can't attack each other.

You onlyhave a few hours to do something, or the fry will be lost.

Good luck.

Well the last of the fry went to heaven today....

So frustrating...
But i guess when it finally works out there is greater sense of achievement.

I'll try dividing them next batch.

Wish me luck
