hi guys,

i have to chose between these two models.

the 2078 is the new version, controlled electronically. they say it goes to 1850 l/h but by default in manual it says it goes to 700l/h...ok, it can be increased (when set to max the pomp isn't controlled anymore)

what i dont understant is why 2078 which has 1850 l/h is rated for max 700l aquarium and 2080 with 1700 l/h can go up to 1200 l aquarium?!?!?

i'll use it in a 650 l aquarium with turtles (they make a lot of dirt) plus an aquarium in the main one, 200x60x15cm with fish (have to think what species fit best here. just ordered the monster! :)

so, any ideas about the filter please help me!

thanks,

dorin

The 2080 is a larger cannister filter with 25 litres of total volume. The 2078 is smaller, something like 14 litres total volume. I think the 2078 is a similar size to the Pro 2 2028 and 2128 thermo filters. Because of its electronic function, it has a more powerful motor than the Pro 2's, this allows it to have a variable water flow and is need to provide some of the other electronic funtions. So in answer to your question, the 2080 is a substantially larger filter which explain its rating of 1200 litre tank size maximum.

Flow rate is not the only factor to decide the filter capacity. Medium size is more important than flow rate in this case.

Just be aware, 25l of water is heavy. I think it is about 50 lb. That will be a haevy thing to lift when clean up the filter.

I know that this ia a very old post, but I am currently in the same dilemma, whether to go for the 2078 or the 2080. It will be used on a setup of 250Lt to start and will eventually be used for a 500Lt setup.

I like the features of the 2078 but my main concern is the reliability given the electronics.

Has anyone had issues with the 2078?

Or

Other reasons why I would choose one over the other?

Cheers

You have to ask yourself if the really need the electronic gizmo's of the 2078, or if you're just being lured by the hype :P

The 2080 has a larger media volume, a much larger tank rating and most importantly - a proven track record.

I have a 2080 on a 5x2x2 and wouldn't change it for quids.. A great filter that never misses a beat and is virtually silent.

Cheers, Swampy. This seems to be the trend that I am seeing across the board.

I think I will go with the 2080.
