I'm very pleased to introduce my very first grandchild, born to my gorgeous daughter Mandy and her husband Barney, on the 22 October at 11.20 pm London time.

Jasper Flynn Withers weighed in at 6lb 1oz after a speedy and trouble free delivery lasting just 4 hours.

Nan,

You are about to begin the best stage in your life - Grandchildren - I myself have 10 of them but as everyone on this forum knows, the 8 year old who lives here in Wagga Wagga is the closest one to me.

Grandchildren are just the best, they give you so much joy and every little new thing that they do makes you want to burst with pride!!.

Congratulations Merrilyn, now your fun begins, enjoy :D :D !!.

Thank you so much everyone for the good wishes.

The little family are now home and doing well.

Seems they do things very differently in England. Mothers with healthy babies are allowed home as soon as they feel well enough, usually 12 hours after the birth, and the midwife visits each day for the next ten days to check on mother and baby. Any problems, and they go back to hospital, but problems are rare.l

Husbands are given two weeks paternity leave to be home with their wife and new baby.

Seems to work well for everyone concerned :D

No guesses as to who is going to be doing a quick trip to England in the near future  ,

Much as I'd love to Marg, it's not possible just at the moment, with a business to run, and an elderly mother who needs full time care.

Fortunately they will be here just after Christmas and staying for a month, so lots of time for cuddles :P

Well if you can't be swayed by newborn humans then maybe cheap Apistogramma can get you on the plane. http://www.dwarfcichlid.co.uk/
Apistogramma Wilhelmi-15 pounds for a pair!
For those prices I'll go and see little Jasper!

Thanks Jim. Everything is wonderful.

Perfect baby. He just eats and sleeps, and is as cute as a button.

They'll be here in January, for a month.

Can't wait.
