Oh dear.

I thought I could see them fanning their fins and cleaning my sword plants.

Just got home after a week at work, and there are eggs, some are brown sacks, some of them are like, white shiney looking, with the fish paying very close attention.

The whiptail is up on the glass behind the swords, but everything else seems to be staying away...

So, as it seems, I have some eggs fertilized on the underside of the sword, can see a tiny little fin, they look like little tadpoles.

Don't know if maybe the other eggs are another spawn?

A little excited, but don't have to time to setup the othertank, unless I take it to my girlfriends place and tend the babies there.

Tank is 40G planted community.. discus, bristlenose, pleco, royal whiptail, corys, and a few assorted tetras[9 in total]

I have also notices that my plecos tail is looking a little shabby, and his dorsal fin... would it be posibile that the parents are nipping at him to keep him away?

thanx.

Will keep you posted.

only bad news.

All the little tad pole looking numbers are gone.

But I see it as a good thing. they have spawned, red SS turq[?] and a blue turq.

Should be good. looking forward to seeing where I end up when I have some more time on my hands.

they are in tapwater, CO2 during the day, airstons at night.

thanks for the kind words.

That's great news Elliot. You have a true mated pair, and the parents are very good at protecting their eggs.

Sadly the fry didn't ever have much chance in a community tank. Just too many hungry mouths, especially after 'lights out'.

Let them spawn a few more times in the community tank. It strengthens the pair bond, and helps to make them good parents.

I'd say your pleco was the culprit here. I guess those little wriggling tails were more than he could resist, and the parents have done their best to drive him off.

The good news is, that your pair will spawn again in about two weeks.

sensational.

I had figured they will probably spawn again, and hopefully once i get the 2stage water filter running that they will be even happier.

Don't have time to separate them out at the moment into their own tank, and don't think I'm ready to nurse a spawn through the summer.

Now, to figure out why all my annubias are developing green spot algae, the slow growing type stuff, really fast.. as well as growing fast.. hrmm..

Thanks ladyred.

well, they spawned again uesterday. Diffrent spo, but on another sword.

I was watching them yesterday and waspretty sure they were going to do it again.

I didn't notice until half way through a waterchange at 4am though.

about to go and investigate, and I'll post some pics, too.

Well, the eggs are gone again, but I'm not supprised they disappeared, had I seem them before i did water change.

I wouldn't have done it if I'd seen em.

But I recon they'll be going at it once a week or so for a while.

at some point I'll have to separate them and let them do their thing I think.

A few pics of the parents...
