It is a Snake Skin, it has really bright colors. It might get more pattern when it gets older. How long you had it for?

You see red snakeskins advertised, it is definitely a SS, maybe a red one?
Great colour anyway.

The local LFS called him a Virgin Red? I had never heard of that and wondered if that was correct.

As far as I can remember, Virgin Red is a naturally occuring colour form, but I don't think it's a snakeskin. Your fish is definately a snakeskin, with it's 14 bars showing.

Hmmm might have to hit the books when I get home.

Anyway, it's a lovely fish, so congratulations.

Thankyou for replying everyone.

Is a snakeskin the only discus that has 14 bars? I loved the look of this discus the minute I saw him but it took me a couple of weeks to go back to the LFS and buy him.

I feel that he is a bit stunted though as his eyes seem a little large.

I loved his colouring and the fact that he did have so many bars, I had never seen this before.

That eye is not large for the size of the fish Sandy. It's perfectly normal for a young fish.

He'll fill out as he grows, and become more round in shape.

All snakeskins have 14 bars, but not all of them show it i.e. albino and golden discus and some of the spotted varieties don't show any bars.

They are also supposed to have a finer scale pattern than the normal discus, hence the name, snakeskin.
