Hi All,

I had a 10cm discus which was bloated yesterday. I treated the fish with epsom salt at the correct dosage but found the fish dead today.

Is it possible for a nice big healthy mature discus to all of a sudden die that quick from being bloated?

Not too happy since i'm scared more in the future will have this same issue.

Hi Fishmad,

Sorry about your loss, its never good losing fish and especially if you don't really know why.

I had a similar situation last year with two fish from the same source, healthy one minute and within 24 hours very bloated and swimming upside down. I put it down to a bacterial infection/swim bladder problem as Epsom Salts did nothing to help them. I think the only thing I could have done in hindsight was treat them with a broad spectrum antibiotic but by the time we all see these problems it may well be too late anyway. Doesn't help you much I know.

Thanks for the reply Mac.

Your right about the information you provided. But mine one started to sink to the bottom of the tank with slow breathing and just stayed on the bottom.

Thanks again.
