Glass aquarium heaters are deemed to be water resistant not water proof as some would have you believe. This is due to the fact that it is impossible to create a hermetic (airtight) seal with this type of product.
When the air in a heater heats up during the heating cycle, the air expands and sometimes escapes past the heaters water seals. When the heating cycle stops, the air inside the heater cools, the air contracts and if the head of the heater is below the water surface it is possible for a tiny amount of water to be drawn into the heater. This results in moisture or fogging to appear on the inside of the glass.
Heaters often cycle dozens of times per day and while this fogging is a perfectly normal occurrence in a small percentage of all heaters that are produced, performance and longevity is not affected and therefore is not a warranty issue. If for any reason at all the performance is affected, you can rest assured that the heater is covered by a 3 year warranty.
Eheim - Jager heaters have been factory calibrated by the manufacturer and do not require further calibration.
In the event that calibration is required, the following procedure is required:
- The heater must remain submersed in the aquarium water during the following procedure.
- Switch OFF & Unplug your heater from the mains supply.
- Measure the water temperature with an accurate thermometer.
- With the heater still submersed in the water, pull out the blue button as far as it will go.
- Adjust the temperature selector ring so that the temperature indicator arrow points to the approximate water temperature measured by your thermometer.
- Push the blue button back in as far as it will go - Re-calibration is now complete.
- Plug your heater into the mains supply and switch it ON.
Note: The temperature selector ring should only be used as a guide. Always use an accurate thermometer for water temperature measurement.
