will high nitrate level affect egg hutching?

My breeding pair has spawned several times without eggs hutching. They turned white. I have checked the water parameter (just got some from LFS) and showed a nitrate level of around 20ppm. Ammonia and nitrite level are both 0. Will high nitrate level be the cause of eggs not hutching?

I know I have to do more frequent water change but just dont want to scare them off.

Please describe your technique for water changes for us -
(so we can see what part frightens the fish?)

20ppm is sort of okay. what filter do you have and how old is the male ?

I use a grave syphon to suck up all the waste on my bare bottom tank. Then I refill the fish tank with aged water from a spare tank with a pump (slow refill so no much current).

I use a bio-max filter which is connected to a Eheim air pump.

Both female and male discus are about 18months old.

Well you're doing all the right things, and your fish will soon get used to all the movement in the tank. I thinks it's just a case of the male getting things right and fertilizing the eggs properly.

This can take a few months with males, and seems to take them a while to get the technique right.

Just give them time, and do those water changes daily to induce them to breed.

Your breeding tank should have a nitrate reading under 5.
