Hey Rossco,
I have heard from a reputable source that the White Crane brand of food from China for discus is not good - has additives that enhance the fishes' colouring but in doing so will render them sterile.
So be careful - may be worth checking out first to see if this is right.
If you verify either way - please let us know.
Thanks

Hi Rossco,

For fry I use the Grade 2 Red Crumb from http://www.ta-aquaculture.co.uk/ . Check the dry food section; where there is the contact details of their Australian re-seller. Grade 2 is a fine dust.

As the fry grow I move on to grade 3 and then to Grade 5. I also do supplementary feedings with BBS and as the fry grow add crushed quality flake food as well. All my fish grow really well on it.

I raised over 18 species of killifish fry on it in the last 12 months, as well as crown tail Bettas and Betta channoides fry.

There are no samples available at this time, but we still have plenty of this food in stock, people on this forum have tried and tested, all with a great response.

Hi Elvira,

If you do a search on the Qld Cichlid forum for White Crane you will come across countless debates over Craning fish. As far as I've read it doesn't make them sterile but it does contain hormones and it will stop your fish breeding whilst you are feeding it to them. Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Thanks for the update MAC.
I've now heard similar things about the White Crane food from several sources.
I guess the safest and best option is to steer clear!
Cheers

The White Crane Discus food, and some of the WC fry foods, and fine grain foods are amongst the best foods out there in the market.

However, there are a few WC products that should be avoided.

The WC Discus grow, Gold, Red etc are perfectly fine, just the grow formula is very high in protein.

The specialist foods that Rebecca has at Xtreme is VERY good stuff
