well,
I've looked at the forums, seen lots of recommendations about using salt under certain circumstances, and I'm just left wondering... what salt do I use?

can I use standard: (ie from the Supermarket)
Iodised Table Salt?
Un-Iodised Table Salt?
Sea Salt?
Rock Salt?

or do I really need to buy Aquarium Salt?

The reason I ask is that around here it seems to be $3/kg from the supermarket and $15+/kg from the LFS

I can't see a problem with using "Sea Salt" or "Uniodised Salt" since when all is said and done, it's all Sodium Chloride. However I might be missing something fantastic about the Aquarium Salt that's being sold @ the LFS, I have to admit that I haven't looked at it all that closely before.

Thanks guys!

Sea salt will do fine and save you a truck load of money.

no Iodised Table Salt or Rock Salt

I know rick salt will increase your KH and buffer PH up.

Iodised may not be good for fish.

Dont use Iodised salt at all, and the non-iodised table salt usually have anti-caking agents which also are not good for your fishes gills. I always just use pure rock salt from the supermarket, just thoroughly check it contains no additives.
