hey,
discus can breed from around 10 months but that doesnt mean they get it right or the male is fertile. as soon as the female produces eggs she is fertile but if the eggs turn white its because of the male.

size is about 10cm minumum.

GP, i have to add that discus can breed as small as 8cm if they are stunted..

So nathan if you see small breeding pairs for sale, do NOT buy them.... :P

How many viable fry grow to adulthood that can a young pair produce.

hey mcloughlin2 you have a very good point mate! lol sorry i forgot to mention smaller discus can breed but they will most likely be stunted.

hey Waldo,
i have seen young pairs only raise about 40 young discus to about 80 young ones. it depends on the pair. there is no set number really.

So without culling a juvinile pair will rear nearly the entire spawn to adulthood? I'm impressed.

With mature breeding pairs, spawns of 300 eggs are not uncommon. Around 80% of those will hatch and another 20% will possibly be lost due to various reasons before they are 1 inch in size. Out of a big spawn, you would average about 60% raised to maturity, although the figure can be much higher.

now are these adult reared young or manually raised? or will both have the same results?

Adult reared mate...

IMO You will get no where near 80% of the fry to survive to adult hood if they are manually raised...

HTH . :D
