youl find most LFS that dont specialise or are really into discus that price is quite the norm, but yeah as GP said they gotta make money and run there own business aswel.

i know but i wouldn't sell fish in such a bad state at 60 bucks each. not importing is not an excuse for sick fish. SLS is expensive too but at least the fish are healthy. i can understand a healthy fish for that price but definitely not something with half its fins rotted off and eyes as big as baseballs. i was tempted to buy a couple and chuck them into a tank full of tetracycline but better judgement prevailed for a change.

fortunantly for you you have another source for discus. this sort is only available to many of our members unless they get them shipped in.

you may notice how these fish generally arent bigger than 5cm? thats becausec when they are either imported or sold they are far too young for the move and previously were not given the best conditions. the breeders of these fish usually just give them what they need to survive and grow to saleable size asap so they can be rid of them.

a lot of the time the aquarium staff dont know as much as they should and that is where they go wrong. there are a lot of reasons for the bad fish..... but in the end they are trying to run a buisness and so they do what they can......

(BTW im not sticking up for them but there is 2 sides to this story hehe)

You also must factor into things that Strictly are like Franklins/BiLo etc, you catch the fish yourself, they cater for the community fish keeper mainly and for specialist fish, well that isnt there market. I have seen Discus at some of there stores before and wanted to rip someones head of given there state, yet I have been to sme of there other stores and the Discus were fine, although somewhat expensive for regular strains such as Turqs.

At the end of the day it pays to shop around, same goes with dry goods... it is pretty much a given these days that most products can be up to half price online.
