Hello guys! The last two days Ive noticed few black or dark blue spots, on both sides on two of my discus. Is it a kind of illness that I have to worry about?

Two more. Take in mind that this discus has become whitish and I donot really know why. He is eating ok but the his colour have turned white. In additiion to the spots is it something that I have to really worry? Any comments? Thanks!

That fish looks pretty healthy to me mate.

I would go with a salt bath at 1 tablespoon per 40L of tank water - that should clear up the spots.

The last time I added salt at the tank the plants really freaked out. So do you have any other proposal? Thanks for the interest!

Petros,

Buy yourself a small tank and use it as your hospital tank. You can buy them pretty cheap at Clints or Big W.

Plants hate salt, as you obviously found out!!!

Petros, any chance of a clearer photo.

I'm sorry, but I can't make out anything in those photos.

Black spots can be all sorts of things, from just natural pigment in the colour of the fish, to a slight injury of the scales.

Can you see anything around the spot, like a red ring or white ring?

Im sorry laryred but thats the best I could:( However there are no red or white rings around the spots. I spend some hours looking at him and resultd to your saying that they look like the natural pigment in the colour of the fish. The strange is that the spots appeared recently. Is it possible on an adult (I think he is) discus to appear such new staff? Thanks for the reply!

Yes it is possible for spotting to appear as the fish matures. If there are no signs of any illness, then I think it's just a normal part of the colouring.

At this stage, I wouldn't be worrying about it.

Just enjoy your lovely fish.
