Just wonder the age of my discus. They are about 3+" big and I bought them about 5 months ago at 2.5-". I'm not sure how old they were at that time. 5 months for about .5" growth, is it the right growth rate or I did not take good care of them?

I wonder when they will reach adult size(hopefully 6"+ :P )

Beautiful fish you have, there. They seem happy and healthy! But the growth rate .... 1/2" in 5 months seems a little slow to me. I've seen discus grow to 8 1/2" in a tank and in the wild they may get even bigger.

How big is your tank?
How many fish are in your tank?
How much do you feed them?
How any water changes do you make and how much water do you change?
Are there other fish in the tank?
Are there any large discus in the tank with the small ones?
Have you medicated the tank over the last 5 months?

Answer these, young jedi, and we'll be able to gauge more on if the growth of your discus is normal. eg if your tank is small and crowded, then stunted growth is normal.
Post your parameters and someone here may be able to figure out why and suggest a solution.

Hi fishlover,

It seems to me that all the fish look healthy and happy in your tank..

My only concern is that it seems a little bit crowded?

Looks to me as there is upto 10 discus in there... :?

Also good you try to get a picture or two of the fish head on so we can determine whether the fish are nice and fat... :D

Cheers...

Well it looks as if everything is perfect to me....

The only problem i can see is maybe your not feeding enough....

but apart from that your doing an awsome job :D

I agree, you seem to be on top of things. I recon as long as long as your fish are happy and perky, and they look like they are, you shouldn't worry too much about if they're growing fast enough. Past a certain stage their growth rate slows down ... all your parameters seem perfect, though.
Good job!

Your fish seem to be going good in the environment you have them in.
At the age of six to 8 months they should be around the 3 inch size and depending if you are doing everything right they should reach the 5 inch size at 12 months, but with some varieties, such as spotteds, it can take up to eighteen months for them to reach the 5 inch size. The secret to good growth is plenty of water changes and food, but in some areas of this country, plenty of waterchanges is out of the question due to severe water restrictions.
