I will get the ball rolling and say they are all red turquoise. Just with different striations.

Ben,

Do you have any Photo's that show the difference between a Red and a Blue Turquoise?

The reason I ask is :

(1) because I am inexperienced

(2) because I have a large Male Blue Turquoise and some time back I purchased a smaller female which was sold to me as a Red Turquoise - when I compare the two they are very similar. I don't care - I love them anyway, but would be interested in knowing what they are.

For us less learned persons, what are the differences?

Regards,

Marg.

I'm with Ben on this one. I believe them all to be red turquoise.

Marg, the very simple definition is that the red turk shows a deeper and more dominant red than the blue turk. Today the reds and blues are crossed so often, that it would be better if we just called them all turquoise.

Pretty fish by the way, crazy frog. And I love the look of the tank, too. :P

ok i keep both blue and red turquoise and the colours of the strains varies A LOT!!!

basically i find that if the base of the fish is brown/red with less blue patterning that base colour it is a red turq. blue turqs have mostly blue. they have sometimes a small amount of brown/ pale blue between their electric blue patterning.

here are pics of some of my breeders. you can see how the red turqs are so much darker and redder than the blue turqs. most blue turqs have an electric blue colour and the reds are much darker.

If I remember correctly, a discus breeder overseas mentioned that:

Red turquiose, have blue striations on a red base whilst,

Blue turquiose have red striations on a blue base.

I'll have to get off my butt and take some Photo's and post them and see what you think.

Thanks everyone.,
