Can anyone tell me the ratio of litres needed per fish.
I have 10 adult discus in two tanks (4 in one and 6 in another).
I would like to put them all in one large tank.
I am thinking of getting a new Aqua-One Regal 300 litre tank.
Will that be big enough?

Hi Irene. The rule of thumb is one adult fish per 40 litres of tank water. Going by that rule, you could have a maximum of 8 adult fish in that tank.

I think the tank you have in mind is a four foot. If you're prepared to add extra filtration and change the water every second day, then you could easily keep your ten fish in there.

I have a Jebo 4 foot planted tank with 12 adult fish in there and don't have any problems. Just take extra care with your water, and you should be fine.

Hi Ladyred,

Just a thought, is that you can only keep 12 adult discus,if you wanted to put some sae or any other of our favorite tank cleaners or some nice neons in would you cut down the number of discus. If so how many discus per other fish?

thanks john

John, neons and SAEs represent a very small bio load. You could easily have a school of 20 or 30 neons and 4 SAEs and it wouldn't make any difference to your tank.

If you wanted to put in a hundred neons, then that's a different thing. :P
