I think u will find that it isnt an airstone but a spone filter.

Hi Paul,

That is pretty much an airstone - but we call it a sponge filter.

It has the bubbles coming out the top which pull water through the sponge (the sponge develops bacteria to break down waste that passes through it).

They are quite cheap in Oz - I dont know how much they would be in UK.

At a guess I would say between 4 to 7 pounds each ?

sponge filters are relatively cheap over here in Australia and I think I found a link in the UK that has a similar type of filter to the one shown...(its the third one down the page) about 5lb HTH

Just be aware that any kind of sandy air store may change your PH level. You really need to do an acid test on the stones to make sure.
