wondering if anyone can help me.

I have been on holidays for 2 weeks (had a friends here watching em changing water etc) when i came home i noticed that one of my chiclids (african im pretty sure) has a buldging eye, its more like the socket rather than the eyeball. Its very noticable, wondering if it could be contagious and if treatment is needed?

Hi There

I recently had a really nice taiwan reef male show the same traits.

To fix up the eye I added 1 tablespoon of rock salt per 20L to the tank and it cleared up in around 2 or 3 days. From what I see it seems to be fairly common to certain types of cichlids if (not saying you have necessarily) water changes have been neglected.

So do a large water change, then add the salt, leave for a 2 or 3 days then another large water change and all should be good.

is there any need to move the fish to hospital tank, incase its contagious?

I dont think you will find it contagious... I agree with g1000... I have a silver dollar that does a similar thing if not happy with water conditions...salt and w/c usually get it down in a couple of days...
