Just came home from Xmas holidays and the whole house was locked up for 4 days in a heat wave and the tank was on 36 deg. all the cardinals, corys, rasboras were dead. The discus were all doing great and hungry and the rummy nose tetras were still alive.
Just goes to show how tuff discus really are.

Sorry to hear about your loss Hettie.

Discus can take high temperatures (below 36.c) for short periods of time.

I'm so sorry to hear that Hettie, how unfortunate...

Out of interest, what temps do people have their tanks set at? Mine is always on 30, and the discus are thriving. I think the higher temp does make them hungrier??

In summer my tank is always 30 deg or above to 33. My rain water tank where I get my new water from is often 33 to 34 at water changes. The discus seem to swim into it.
It's 30 deg inside the house with the air conditioner on.
But I really struggle with my plants. Anubias do OK.

I know one person overhere selling discus and when the situation is really bad (disseas or something) he even turn up the heath to 37 degrees celsius....NOTE: happend only in 2 occasions to get rid of some nasty bacterial/disseas

So indead it shows what a thoug fish discus really is.
Sorry to hear about your loss

mine fluctuates between 32.0 to 33.8 degrees.
the discus, cardinal, corys, clownloach, altums are all fine.
when i do a water change, if the temp of the new water is anything below 29degrees, the fish seems to get abit sick, but when i add in 32degrees water, the fish all becomes lively.

I live about 300km inland in QLD, the outside temp in summer is usually 38-45. Our house A/C runs 24/7 to keep the tank temp at about 27-28. It tends to be very stable.

I prefer my discus pan fried not boiled.
