I just heard on the grape vine that the sale of meth blue will be banned by the goverment. due to it being a carcinogenic (spelling?)

Is this true??

because if it is might be worth saving a few bottles?

Cheers,
Ben

Ben, I've heard rumours to the same effect, but can't get anything confirmed.

don't suggest such things lol, next you know we'll all need chemical user certificates like farmers just for our hobby

FYI

i just recieved this email from a good source/supplier

Sorry Ben but we are unable to purchase Methylene Blue in any size from any
distributor.
Methylene Blue has been sold as in the past as an unregistered medication.
The powers at be now say it has to be registered. This registration process
will take months, so we do not expect to have stock for at least 3 months.
You can also expect a price rise as the registration of the product will
cost $10,000 per package size per year.

Hi Mate,
you can still buy it from your LFS, but as far as i know the wholesalers are not selling it to the retailers.
Check out your LFS, you should still be able to buy it locally.

cheers,
Ben

Hi Max,
yes it does affect the bacterias in sponge filters, killing all of the good bacteria, i am not sure.

When treating, i will give the sponge filter a good clean with fresh water and treat like a new sponge filter.

This seems to work for me,

cheers,
Ben

Hi piranha,

Its not a good idea to bring meth blue into Australia like that, customs always have a way of finding things that should not be comming into Australia.

Many LFS will still have meth blue as old stock on thier shelves. I will send you a PM of a couple.

Cheers,
Ben

Being pathology aware - I can tell you right now that meth blue will not be banned. It is a cytoplasmic dye and is still used for slide prep. It may change its name and probably wont be able to be sold as meth blue in shops.

Kenneth,
Typically it is used to treat white spot but can be used to combat eggs from going fungus.
