I am interested to know what type of power bill most people have
Mine has humped up from $500 to $700 this quater and i only added two new heaters in the quarter

I think mum said ours is about $600...i only have 3-4anks running at a time...but they all have a light, heater and filter..and i have two big filters for my pond...

But there are 6 peoplz in our house so that could be the problem... :?

Just did a quick calc.

If you added 2 x 300W heater, and they ran 24hrs per day without swithchig off, then over 90 days they'd cost you $196.

That's at the rate of about 15.5c per kwh.

That's an eye opener. I'd never realised that there would be so much of a hike.

I guarantee you that they don't run 24/7. If they do, you need a bigger heater.

I was just illustarting the point.

mum said ours was about 700. considering there is 7 ppl in my house. luckily it is insulated and the heaters r hardly ever on. i have 3 tanks running atm. 1 x 3ft, 1 x 2ft, 1 x 6ft. also a tank for the blue tongue who needs his light and heat rock...

why its worth your while $$$$ to have a well insulated brick fish house down south.

if you have a garage set up in victoria those heaters will be on 24/7 trying to keep the temp up.

i had two heaters per tank to maintain it to 29 when i had my shed setup

or better still go the gas heater for the entire room $$$

This sort of hobby you cant think about the $$$, but think of the pleasure they give you!

I thought 300 was bad!!! Remember it is winter and even gas heaters require electricity to run fans.. so could be partly contributed to by that... I am hoping that my nearly $100 rise isn't due to my new 4ft setup that I've only had for 3 months.... :?

My bill has just arrived, $558 - we use wood heating for our house, goes 24 hours during winter and still going strong now. I am able to turn my heaters down about two degrees whilst the fire is going, we have a ceiling fan which throws heat back down from the ceiling, might help some of you guys too. I have one 680 litre, one 270 litre tank at 29 degrees c.

Re: Power:

I read in the readers digest (yes some of us dags read it!! :lol: ) that 12% of power bills are due to standby power wastage.. thats something to think about... If we all turned our TV's, dvds, videos and stereos off properly instead of using standby we might save some $$$$

Ben actually has his own power plant in the back yard which he moniters ( like homer simpson ) to ensure that he has enough power for those tanks!

Ben you probably have a hydroelectric setup and with the water from the water changes you have left over you use that to generate power from the turbines. I mean you do, do a lto of water changes don't you.
