Am currently using tetracycline for my sick discus. But the instructions on the bottle are fairly vague. I don't know how long I should wait to see results and I dont know if I am supposed to re dose the tank. and if so how often or is it a one off treatment. ie You put in the specified dosage and then wait. Can anybody help with this? thanks in advance.

Hi Sammigold,

Tetracycline comes in different structures....you have Oxytetracycline, Chlorotetracycline and tetracycline HCL. Commonly when we mention tetracycline, we refer to Tetracycline HCL.

You did not mention the recommended dosage in the bottle...so assuming that it is in pure form, dosage should be 2 gm to 100 litre of water for 12 days.

Better not to feed on the first 5 to 6 days. Whenever the water is changed, redose to strength....(if you siphon out 70%, you add 1.4 gm).

In aquatic condition, I feel that 5 to 8 days antibiotic treatment is not holistic enough.

Take care mate,
Andrew :angel
