hi there
i recently bought a fish, thinking was a she because had the sexual tube very out. so, i put her in the community tank and she starts to shiver and now is guarding a piece of driftwood. is this a normal behavior for a female? never saw a female guarding or cleaning a space and being agressive without a male. is the shivering indicating that she will lay eggs soon?

Even if she does lay eggs they will not hatch if there is no male to fertalise them... :D

When u bought her she was most likely breeding with a male in the tank she was in..

U split the pair so i wouldnt expect any breeding results anytime soon coz she has to pair up again.... :)

Cheers,

SAM

Excellent answer Sam. That's exactly right.

Germanblue, it's quite normal for the female to select, clean and guard a site for spawning. Your female may yet lay eggs, but as Sam pointed out, they won't be fertile.
