Hi all , just wondering how people quarantine their new fish ?

How long does is take ? And do you use any sort of medicine ??

Thanks

2-3 weeks here.

I use the water removed from the main tank so they are instantly acclimated to the new water. I usually give them a worm treatment, and other than that, just watch them very closely, no need to treat them for something they dont have.

If all is well, they get moved into the main tank a few weeks later

I am also very selective as to where I source my fish from.

Exactly the same as proteus, except I quarantine my fish for 4 weeks.

Do yourself a favour, and quarantine anything you intend putting in your discus tank, from a cardinal tetra to bristlenose catfish.

It will save a lot of heartache.

I too agree with proteus and ladyred but also one thing to remember when quarantining, it too keep all related equipment seperate and if nessasary to steralize it.

cheers,
Ben

What kind of worm treatment do you normally use ?

What brand ?

Sorry for asking too many questions.

Thanks everyone

Hi Dr.V:

I quaratine all my fishes...for a period of four weeks...
I use "Metronidazole" tablets for treating 'intestinal parasites'...at the ratio of 250mg/100lts...with temp. raised to 32dC...for three days with a 50% WC every eight hours (maintaining the strength of 'Metro' same)...

The above in the first week...and followed in the last week...(with a gap of 21 days inbetween)

Most importantly, as Proteus says; I'm choosy where I buy from...
Save you lot of headaches...

Bye,

Benny
