Keep them coming.

Just a few tips folks, wipe down the glass before you take photos, and look thru the tank into the background. Lots of ugly equipment is not a good look.

Happy snapping.

About 20 bronze and 5 albino. With the exception of one, all the bronze were bred at home.

YLEM how did you manage to breed all those bronze cory's from just one fish ??? :?

Ylem
Tue Aug 16, 2005, 04:07 PM
Only had 1 bronze, had around half a dozen albino's. The bronze turned out to be female and ended up laying frequently. As the albino gene is recessive, all the fish came out bronze. Perhaps I could have worded it a little better in the previous post.

On a side note, ROFL@sammigold's photo :D

OscarManAlpha
Wed Aug 17, 2005, 01:39 AM
Ylem have you bred any other types of Cory's ?

Do you have any other varieties in your collection ?

Sam the blue fish is actually a CT but his crowning never grew back properly after a failed spawning attempt  . Nova is a mix if CT and something else, possibly delta or VT, not 100% sure, but I like him whatever the case.

Otto what size is your tank ?

Do you ever have a fish jump out ?

Is your evaporation rate very high ?

How old is your set-up ?

Enough questions !!

BTW tank looks great

otto
Sun Aug 21, 2005, 05:51 AM
OscarMan, my tank is 500L including sump, the only fish i seem to loose are siamensis cats, evap rate is quite high approx. 25L/week & this set up is about 8 months old. the wet/dry was already bioed and i used old substrate. BTW thankyou..

OscarManAlpha
Sun Aug 21, 2005, 06:15 AM
Otto are you pumping CO2 ?

Do you use any ferts ?

OscarManAlpha
Sun Aug 21, 2005, 06:16 AM
And heater cable ?

otto
Sun Aug 21, 2005, 08:22 AM
OscarMan, my CO2 system is a BOC size D food grade CO2 bottle, tunze
regulator, aquamedic solenoid, dupla reactor s, and dupla pH control alpha.
ferts are dupla root & root K in substrate and plant & plant 24. Heating
consists of dupla therm 500 with temp control alpha with additional via-aqua
in the sump. i run 3 x 125W mercury vapours for lighting.

One more Cory pic from me. I really like the colour of that Nova character you've got there
Yeah Nova's a groovy fishy :P .
I was planning to buy a couple more khuli's today but something caught my eye. There were 3 corys in a tank with some large fish, as I was watching I literally saw one of the corys get ripped to peices (it died) and the other 2 were being chased. As a matter of urgency I bought the two remaning live corys, one was lucky to get away with a nip to his dorsal. They're settling in but are still pretty jumpy. So here they are, my two lucky fishys :P .
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/fuzzy_dragonfly/Leopardcory.jpg
for those interested these are Leopard corys (corydoras julii)
EDIT: for more info see below

OscarManAlpha
Sun Aug 21, 2005, 02:11 PM
http://www.scotcat.com/factsheets/c_trilineatus.htm

If you visit your local aquarist establishment and you are greeted with a tank labelled, Corydoras julii, you can bet that in 95% of the cases that you will be looking at Corydoras trilineatus, unless the shop owner is very much "into" cats and so that will take care of the other 5%!. Why the confusion, well apart from the reason that C. julli hails from Brazil and is rarer and trilineatus is found in Peru & Ecuador there is a marked difference in the markings on the area of the snout/head. Below you can see the comparisons as the C. julii on the right has a fine spotted head and C.trilineatus on left has what you would term, reticulations in that area. :?

Worth a look they may be Corydoras trilineatus not that it matters they are both great fish to have. But if you ever want more to breed with or make a school of them this info would be handy !!

mcloughlin2
Mon Aug 22, 2005, 09:39 AM
Otto,

Nice tank....all these good photos...

I hope the discus the LFS gets in for me are top quality to make up for any faults in my tank and photgraphy skills LOL....

fuzzy_dragonfly
Mon Aug 22, 2005, 02:22 PM
Thanks OscarMan  , I was suspicious they weren't the genuine article.
So, if you see a tank labelled corydoras julii you now know it is most likely corydoras trilineatus as pictured above. More commonly known as Three-lined cory not Leopard cory  .
You learn something new everyday  .

Probebly better they are more common then julii, it'll make it easier to find more if I ever choose to breed them.
