Hi Andrew

Welcome to down under Discus Forum.

I believe approximately you can have 1 discus per 10g

1. Very picky – not quite some early stage they would be picky but you can train them.
2. Need Dim light – that is a personal choice not fish.
3. Needs floating plants and anchored plants for hiding – I put a driftwood
4. Temp 80-88*F – yes the same here
5. Very Docile not aggressive and very beautiful :wink: I should add.

And the water conditions:

PH: 6-7 no matter what Ph you’d like to keep as long as it needs be stable
Ammonia = 0.0
Nitrite = 0.0
Nitrate = 0.0

Planted tank or bare bottom is your choice. Personally all my tanks are BB, so much easy to take care.

That’s all I think of, perhaps many experts in this forum might give you something else.

In regards to Salt, I'd like to know what you use it for. Normally 1-2 TS per 10g,

Hope this helps.

Nitrate does not and should not be zero unless there is no plants. Keep it under 10 some say 20. If it is zero there is a cycling problem in your tank or you are wasting as hell of a lot of water.

Rudy, welcome to the forum. Nice to have you join us. Discus are certainly docile towards other fish, but can be scrappy amongst themselves. They are still cichlids, and will try to establish a pecking order.

They really do better kept on their own. Your black ghost knife fish will be fine, but your gouramis and angels would be better in another tank. :P
