Hi,

I have 8 pigeon blood discus which are 9.5 months old in a 200 litre tank. Currently there are 2 of them are at extreme ends of the tank. One facing a terracotta pot all day while the other keeps on facing a piece of driftwood all day, both occasionally pecking on the respective surfaces. There are however 3 other fishes which swim around and shivers, much like the spawning behaviour. However I do notice that no 2 fishes hang around each other all day as mentioned in books or by others on this forum. Is this pairing behaviour?

Thanks in advance for all advise.

At 9.5 months, it's probably a little early for them to be pairing off, but that is certainly pre spawning behaviour.

Just think of them as teenagers practising all the moves before the right girl or guy comes along.

Give them another couple of months, and you will see different behaviour
