1) a 2ft x 18inches x 18inches should be big enough (please feel free to correct me anyone)
2)price range for tank is probably $50-$100, fish from $35 for a small discus upto, well, possibly $1000's
3) Yes, you need a heater. They like temps between 26-31c
4)they arent one of the hardest fish to keep, by they do need attention particularly the water quality
5) best live foods are black worms and brine shrimp, but try to vary their diet as some foods dont have all of what they need in it. Try blood worms, black worms, a good quality flake or pellet food, brine shrimp, some beef heart (although it doesnt contain much goodness) maybe even mosquito lavae.

Water Quality
This is probably the key to keeping discus healthy and happy.
pH 6.5-7
Temp 26-31c ours are kept at 28c
water changes - 10-20% changed about twice a week (depends on the amount of fish and waste)
You will also need a good filter system and probably a few water test kits aswell as a GOOD pH meter.

Hope that helps.

Small tanks work but larger ones are easy to maintain

try a 3 or 4fter

5-7 discus are easier to keep than 2-3 as they love to school

discus like to be kept at 29-30 degrees cel so a good heaters is a must (and not a bad idea to keep a spare in case the other one breaks)

they like clean water so if you want to keep them regular water changes are a must

Vary there diet on blood worms, granules, brineshrimp, discus dinners and when you get used to your fish maybe even a home made beef heart mix

our water up here is great, if you can age the water and heat it to the temp of your tank and do 33% water changes twice a week

thats it! :D

(1) i think 3 footer would be the best giving more room for them to grow.
(2) depends, leopard snake skin type cost a lot
(3) yes , in winter temp drops so much, must keep aroun 28-29
(4) they're not hard to keep if you know ur stuff
(5) worms
