Just wondering if anyone has used/is using peat moss to buffer their ph?
How much per litre etc or other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

yeah, but that doesn't really bother me because I am using blackwater extract.

If you are using blackwater extract, you shouldn't need peat too.

They do the same thing.

Merrilyn, I haven't noticed any change in my ph since I have been using the blackwater extract though. Its a constant 7.
Would there be any harm in using peat + extract?

No, it won't cause any problems. But I would test it in your water ageing drum first. Add the peat to a stocking, and just hang it in the drum for 24 hours, along with the extract.

Then test to see how far it has shifted.

A constant 7 is pretty good you know. I'd be quite happy with that, even for breeding tanks.

I am happy with my water parameters, but it doesn't stop me wondering, "If I did this would it be better? Would they be happier?" etc. I try not to mess around with the water too much, and didn't really want to use chemicals to buffer it, thats what got me thinking about the peat.
I must admit to an accute attack of nerves when it comes to my discus, (Rod just sent me some lovely pb's and a gorgeous little alenquer x tq which I love).
I am still fighting the urge not to gravel vac every second day, I now do it every fourth day.

I agree what is a good amount of peat to put into a 200lt storage drum for 24 hours

how often do you change the peat over

i have managed to score a little bag (4cubic ft compressed) and was gonna try
