Hi

I am in Melbourne. Do I need to soften the water for breeding? If so, how to do it? Thanks!!

Get a TDS metre and see what it is like. Give them a go before you start out laying for somthing you may not need to do. My breeding tanks in Townsville i have had sucess one pair PH5 TDS 140 water temp 28c 2 GH & 2 KH.
Another pair PH 6.2 TDS 180 water temp 28c 2 GH & 2 KH

As a rule melbourne water is quite soft anyway so i dont think it would be needed

Thanks for info.

How about PH? What is the best way to lower PH? I believe Melbourne water is PH7. I haven't got PH meter or test kit to measure it. Thanks!!

Melb waters ph is 7 but I really wouldnt worry about that to much either . My sisters discus breed in water with a ph of 7.8 to 8.0 .So my thoughts are if they are happy they will breed
