Hey Guys,

Just a general question today, did a massive clean of my tanks. Anyway pulled out a terracotta cone and gave it a wipe down, the cloth came off orange.

The question is should it have come off orange? and should I leave it in my tank.

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob,

Water is the universal solvent. Soft water with a low pH is going to "break down" most materials over time. As your terracotta breeding cones are not glazed they will be susceptible to this aging process. Personally, I wouldn't be worried about it.

I used 4 inch diameter PVC cut to length for my breeding "cones". Easy to clean, cheep, and if the fish knock it over it won't break a tank.

i also use pvc pipe it works a treat ,easy to clean and one 6 metre length make lots of breeding cones for a reasonable price.
